The Regional Coordinating office of IBFAN Asia brings you the report from 18 new countries that were added to IBFAN's flagship programme the World Breastfeeding Trends Initiative (WBTi). WBTi has its presence in more than 100 countries out of which 75 countries have completed their breastfeeding policy and programme assessment. The new countries include Armenia, Belgium, Croatia, Portugal, Ukraine, Turkey, Georgia ,Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cuba, Panama, Paraguay, Palau, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Bahrain, Sierra Leone and Tanzania.

Every lactating mother needs support to successfully carry out breastfeeding. There are times when a mother has to face various breastfeeding problems like not enough milk, breast engorgement, nipple infections etc. At times like these, all such mothers need personalized expert services and practical help. The counseling centre excels and specializes in providing such support to mothers in need.

E-marketing websites are increasingly being used by formula and infant food as well as feeding bottle companies to sale their products without following the Indian Law that bans the promotion of baby food up to 2 years. These companies are luring parents by unnecessary discounts and offers. This latest Breaking the Law series brings out the violations occurring over such portals at the cost of infant lives.

The project aims to train 2000 breastfeeding counselors over a span of 2 years in India. BPNI's four- day skill training program will be used to empower existing health workers like Accredited Social Health Activitists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurses and Midwives (ANMs) and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) to become counselors. They will be enabled to help mothers to follow good breastfeeding practices and avoid harmful formula feeding and thus prevent disease and deaths at grassroots level.
